In praise of the Shannon cruise, and the life of an unhurried aquatic Hobbit.

River cruises aren’t for everyone, but they are absolutely, positively for me.

I am always tempted to recommend Shannon cruising to everyone I meet.

I don’t, because the only people who ever took up my recommendation hated it so much that they abandoned a ten day trip after day two.

Something about showering in a room the size of a small wardrobe and travelling everywhere at seven kilometres an hour wasn’t for them.

But if you can handle living in a miniature slow-moving apartment, then it’s the holiday for you. It’s like being an unhurried aquatic Hobbit.
